Privacy Policy

Product of Switzerland Organization

Effective date: October 26, 2026
Last updated: October 26, 2026

This policy explains how the Product of Switzerland Organization (“we,” “us,” or “the Organization”) handles personal data when people visit our website, contact us, apply for or participate in the Product of Switzerland program, or use our related services.

The program is based on Swiss origin: qualifying products must use Swiss-origin materials and ingredients, and all manufacturing must take place in Switzerland. Product-origin information is generally business information; this policy describes how we handle personal data connected with applications, verification, listings, and services.

1. Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is the legal entity operating the Product of Switzerland, Organization: [PRODUCT OF SWITZERLAND], [244, 5TH AVE NEW YORK, NY], USA.

For privacy questions or requests, contact [contact@productofswitzerland.com] or write to the address above. The Organization has not designated a Data Protection Officer unless stated here: [insert DPO contact, if applicable].

2. Personal data we collect

The information we collect depends on how you interact with us. It may include:

  • Contact and account details, such as your name, business name, role, email address, phone number, postal address, login credentials, and communication preferences.
  • Application and verification information from producers and applicants, such as business registration details, product names, photographs, ingredient or material declarations, manufacturing locations, supply-chain records, certificates, invoices, supporting documents, and correspondence needed to assess Swiss-origin eligibility.
  • Program and marketplace information, such as label applications, review notes, decisions, renewals, product listings, seller profiles, order and delivery details, returns, customer-service records, and payment status. Payment card or bank details should be handled by the selected payment provider; we do not intend to store full payment card numbers.
  • Event, membership, and newsletter information, including attendance, invitations, subscriptions, and the preferences you give us.
  • Website and device information, such as IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, timestamps, approximate location derived from IP, cookie identifiers, and security logs.
  • Information from public sources or referrals, such as business directories, company websites, and information supplied by a referring member or partner, where relevant to an application or inquiry.

3. Why we use personal data

We use personal data for specific program and operational purposes:

  • To respond to questions, manage accounts, and provide requested information or services.
  • To receive and assess applications, verify product-origin claims, communicate decisions, administer labels and renewals, and investigate suspected program misuse.
  • To create and maintain Organization and marketplace listings, if you apply for a listing or authorize publication of your business or product information.
  • To operate a marketplace if and when it is launched, including seller onboarding, orders, payments through a provider, delivery coordination, customer support, refunds, and dispute handling.
  • To send program notices and, where allowed, newsletters or promotional messages. You can unsubscribe from marketing messages at any time; service and application notices may still be sent when necessary.
  • To protect the website, accounts, applicants, customers, and the Organization; prevent fraud; maintain records; and meet applicable legal, accounting, and regulatory duties.
  • To understand and improve our website and services, including through analytics where enabled and permitted by law.

4. What may be made public

A public product or producer listing may include a business name, product name, product description, approved origin information, images, website, and business contact details that you submit for publication or authorize us to publish.

We will not publish private application records, identity documents, personal contact details, or verification materials as part of a listing unless you expressly authorize it or the law requires it. Information published on the internet may be copied, indexed, or shared by others and may remain available in archived copies after a listing is changed or removed.

5. When we share personal data

We may share personal data only as needed for the purposes above, including with:

  • Service providers that host or maintain our website, forms, email, customer support, analytics, cloud storage, security, and marketplace tools.
  • Independent reviewers, auditors, or technical specialists who help assess an application or verify product-origin information, subject to appropriate confidentiality and data-protection safeguards.
  • Payment, delivery, and marketplace providers when needed to complete a transaction or provide a requested service.
  • Professional advisers, insurers, regulators, courts, law-enforcement authorities, or other parties when required by law or reasonably necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims and protect people or the Organization.
  • A successor or transaction partner if the Organization is reorganized or transferred, subject to applicable privacy requirements.

We do not sell personal data. We do not share applicant personal data with other producers for their independent marketing. Our service providers may process information only under our instructions or as otherwise allowed by law.

6. International processing

Some service providers or recipients may process data outside Switzerland, including in countries that may have different data-protection laws. When Swiss law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we will use an applicable safeguard, such as a country recognized as providing adequate protection or approved contractual protections, and provide information about the transfer when required.

[Before publication, identify the countries and key providers actually used, and specify the safeguards relied upon.]

7. How long we keep data

We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purpose for which it was collected, including application review, label administration, marketplace transactions, customer support, security, and legal or accounting recordkeeping. Retention periods vary by record type.

When information is no longer needed, we delete it or remove identifying details, unless law requires us to retain it longer.

[Set and publish retention periods for unsuccessful applications, approved applicants, marketplace orders, marketing lists, and security logs.]

8. Cookies and similar technologies

Our website may use essential cookies and similar technologies to operate pages, remember settings, protect accounts, and maintain security. If we use analytics, advertising, or other non-essential tracking technologies, we will describe them and provide the choices or consent mechanisms required by applicable law.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings, although blocking essential cookies may affect website functions.

[List the actual cookies, analytics tools, cookie lifetimes, and user controls before publication.]

9. Security and data incidents

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal data against unauthorized access, loss, alteration, or disclosure. No internet service can guarantee perfect security.

If a data security breach occurs, we will assess it and notify affected people or the competent authority when applicable law requires notification.

10. Your privacy rights

Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have the right to ask whether we process your personal data, request access to it, correct inaccurate information, request deletion or restriction, object to certain processing, receive or transfer certain information, or withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.

Swiss residents may also contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). People protected by another applicable law may contact their local data-protection authority.

To make a request, use  [contact@productofswitzerland.com]. We may ask for information needed to verify your identity and will respond within the time required by applicable law.

11. Children

Our program and marketplace are intended for businesses and adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children for program participation.

If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, contact [contact@productofswitzerland.com] so we can review and delete it where appropriate.

12. Automated decisions

We do not currently make decisions about applicants or customers solely by automated means that produce legal or similarly significant effects. If this changes, we will provide the information and rights required by applicable law before the relevant processing begins.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our data practices, services, or legal requirements change. We will post the current version on our website and revise the “Last updated” date.

If a change materially affects how we use personal data, we will provide additional notice where required.
